Summary

This book marks the first original collection of acupuncture case histories in English. Included are over one hundred case histories contributed by prominent practitioners of acupuncture in China. The case histories represent a broad spectrum of disorders for which acupuncture is used in contemporary China.

Author Biography

Chen Jirui, M.D. (1930-2004) graduated from Peking Union Medical College in 1957. In 1984, Dr. Chen was among the founders of the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the first English language periodical on this discipline published in China. He also served on the faculty of the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After immigrating to the United States, he served as director of research at the East West Medical Research Institute in Los Angeles, and was co-editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture. He was also a research scientist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, an instructor at SAMRA University, and director of research at Tongyuan International. Nissi Wang, M.S. is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University (B.A. in History, 1977), Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health (M.S. in Pathobiology, 1980) and the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (Postgraduate Certificate, 1983). She is senior medical editor at Krames, a publisher of patient education materials. She also continues to translate and edit publications on Chinese medicine, and has collaborated on several books, including The Illustrated Dictionary of Chinese Acupuncture and Acupuncture Case Histories from China.
