Summary

Kishwar Naheed is a prominent voice in Urdu literature. This expanded collection of her work includes ten additional poems, presented with the original Urdu version. The English translations have been contributed by established and well-known poets.

Author Biography


Kishwar Naheed grew up in Lahore and has been contributing as a creative writer to several publications for many decades. She has also served various women's organizations. Between 1961 and 1998 she wrote eight collections of poetry. Two of her books were published in India, and selected poems have been published in Europe, USA, and Africa. She has also edited and published research work on the plight of women. As a translator she has rendered various works into Urdu including Folk Tales of Asia, a UNESCO assignment published in 1976. She was the recipient of the Mandela Award in 1997, and was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in 2000.
