Summary

Easily the most recognizable architectural style in America, with its brick or shingled facades trimmed in white and ornamented with restrained classical detail, The Colonial Revival emerged in the late nineteenth century and is still the basis for classical design today. Focused on the period between 1900 and 1930, The American Style will explore developments in architecture and decorative arts as well as the emergence of museum period rooms and model rooms in department stores to showcase the style. Contemporary examples of Colonial Revival design will also be included.
