Summary

From the hills of Tuscany to English country scenes, THE ART OF ILLUSION shows artists how to create stunning, three-dimensional murals on walls and furniture. The books starts by helping readers develop a workable design, draw it to scale, and transfer it to the painting surface using the principles of three-point perspective. Artists will then study techniques for surface preparation and color mixing before starting on the projects. Several classically inspired themes are included such as, a Tuscan view, a Tiepolo mural, Roman gods and creatures "en grisaille" and English country cattle murals. Artists will also find updated trompe l'oeil murals, featuring a whimsical changing room scene, a cozy-looking tabby cat, and a beach-side window view.

Author Biography

Janet Shearer is a leading exponent of the art of trompe l'oeil. Born into a family of architects, she originally trained as a painter before becoming a model and moving into the film world as an art director and set designer. She is now well-known and much in demand for her trompe l'oeil paintings, and her work has been featured in a range of interior design publications. She runs regular trompe l'oeil painting courses at her studio in Cornwall, England, teaching beginners valuable basic drawing skills and extending the abilities of those who are already experienced artists
