Author Biography

Hans Kraus, M.D., was a world-renowned expert on back ailments and sports medicine. He served on many notable committees, including the President's Council on Youth Fitness. Dr. Kraus also spent two years as President John F. Kennedy's back specialist and was a world-renowned mountain climber. Robert H. Boyle, a former senior writer and now special contributor at Sports Illustrated, was a patient and friend of Dr. Hans Kraus. In addition to writing articles and books about the outdoors and the environment, as an activist Boyle founded Riverkeeper and the Hudson River Foundation for Science and Environmental Research. Boyle and his wife, Kathryn, live outside Cooperstown, New York. Melanie Trice is an artist and photographer who studied linguistics, studio art, and creative writing at New York University. Within the next few years, she hopes to start her own photography business, perform stand-up comedy, write a bestselling novel, and learn to be more realistic.
