Author Biography


Brigid C. Flynn, MD, is an anesthesiologist and intensivist at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas with focus in the care of postoperative cardiac surgical and heart failure patients. She completed her residency in anesthesiology at The University of Virginia followed by a fellowship in critical care medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. When not caring for patients, Brigid pursues research interests concerning postoperative coagulopathy and workplace wellness.

Natalia S. Ivascu, MD, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Chief of Critical Care Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She serves as the Medical Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Adult Extracoporeal membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) service. Dr. Ivascu is board certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Her research interests include acquired coagulopathy, neurological complications of cardiac surgery, and medical ethics.

Vivek K. Moitra, MD, MHA, is the Allen I. Hyman Professor of Critical Care Anesthesiology at the Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Moitra is Division Chief of Critical Care Medicine and Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.

Alan Gaffney, MB BCh PhD, is an anesthesiologist and intensivist at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. He completed his residency in anesthesiology in Ireland and his fellowship in critical care medicine at Columbia University Medical Center.
