Author Biography
Vijaydan Detha is a writer from Rajasthan and co-founder, with Komal Kothari, of Rupayan Samsthan, a folklore institute in the village of Borunda. Among other prestigious recognitions, he was inducted as a fellow of India's Sahitya (literature) academy in 2004 and in 2007 was awarded a Padma Shri by the government of India.
Christi A. Merrill is Associate Professor of South Asian Literature and Postcolonial Theory at the University of Michigan. Her book on translating Detha's stories, Riddles of Belonging: India in Translation and Other Tales of Possession, was published by Fordham University Press in 2009.
Kailash Kabir is a poet from Rajasthan and the primary Hindi translator of the work of Vijaydan Detha. His translations between Hindi and Rajasthani have been published regularly by India's Sahitya (literature) academy.
