Summary

Women all over the country and the doctors and nurses who care for them have established this book as the standard reference in its field. Dr. Susan Love, America's best-known authority on women's health, has entirely revised her authoritative guide to reflect the very latest, and increasingly optimistic, information. Readers will learn of recent breakthroughs in genetic research; of Dr. Love's own research into a new technique to access the milk ducts, the source of breast cancer cells; the latest studies into preventive measures such as tamoxifen and dietary strategies; new knowledge of risk factors, and promising outcomes from new treatments for metastatic cancer. In the same warm, supportive and often delightfully candid tone that has brought confidence to millions of women, Dr. Love helps each reader plan her own path through diagnosis, treatment options, and navigating the changing world of HMO's and insurance. She also offers indispensable advice about maintaining the quality of life during treatment and how to combine alternative self care with topnotch medical help. Book jacket.
