Rising Latino evangelical Old Testament scholar Dominick Hernández demonstrates how to read Old Testament texts well and put the ancient written word into practice in our day and age. 

Hernández shows that four core commitments put readers on the right trajectory for reading and applying the Old Testament to their lives:

  1. Reading humbly.
  2. Reading successively.
  3. Reading entirely.
  4. Reading deliberately.

Students will learn how to become better readers of the text and how to read select Old Testament passages well, paying attention to how the biblical authors used rhetorical techniques to provoke readers to action. 

Author Biography

Dominick Hernández es profesor de Antiguo Testamento en la Escuela de Teología Talbot de la Universidad de Biola. Hernández enseña varias materias, incluyendo Literatura Bíblica de Sabiduría, Literatura del Antiguo Cercano Oriente y los Rollos del Mar Muerto. Además es autor del libro “Proverbios: caminos hacia la sabiduría” (Abingdon, 2020). Sus próximas publicaciones incluyen comentarios sobre Nahúm, Habacuc, Sofonías (Cascade) y Cantar de los Cantares (Eerdmans). 

Dominick Hernandez is a Professor of Old Testament at Biola University's Talbot School of Theology. Hernández teaches various subjects, including Biblical Wisdom Literature, Ancient Near Eastern Literature, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Hernández is the author of Proverbs: Pathways to Wisdom (Abingdon, 2020). His forthcoming publications include commentaries on Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah (Cascade), and Song of Songs (Eerdmans).
