Summary

With the clarity that characterized SOA for the Business Developer, Ben Margolis's new book introduces Rational Business Developer Extension (RBDe), an environment that helps traditional programmers write industrial-strength applications quickly. RBDe is an add-on to Eclipse-based products that facilitate code development in one or more languages, including C, C++, COBOL, Java, PL/I, and assembler. The additional, distinguishing feature of RBDe is its support for Enterprise Generation Language (EGL), a high-level language that lets developers create business software without requiring that they have detailed knowledge of runtime technologies. EGL is the culmination of more than 25 years' experience in designing syntax for rapid application development. EGL builds on the best of its predecessors, IBM VisualAge Generator and Informix 4GL (I4GL), with a concise, procedural syntax that includes simple object-oriented features. The language supports innovations in dynamic processing, error handling, and database access.
