Summary

"Mohammad Gharib, M.D.: His Inspiring Life and Legacy," details the career and life of arguably the most influential figure in modern Iranian medicine. A highly respected physician and teacher, Dr. Gharib is referred as the Father of Iranian Pediatrics by the medical community today.

Throughout his life, Dr. Gharib was recognized across the globe for his many achievements. In 1954, the French government conferred upon him the Cross of the Chevalier (Knight) of the Légion d'Honneur, the highest French distinction for military and civil accomplishments. In 1960, the Iranian government presented him the Farhang Award for his teaching service. The American magazine Medical Digest featured Dr. Gharib in a 1965 series of articles on prominent physicians worldwide.

Since 1979, his colleagues and the Iranian Pediatric Society have commemorated his memory through an annual, week-long medical conference entitled "Doctor Gharib Memorial Pediatric Congress." For his lifetime of service, he was honored on a stamp, issued by Iran, in 1991. The story of his life was also developed into a popular Iranian television series, "Roozegar-e Gharib," shown first in 2007, and twice more due to popular demand.

This book not only highlights his illustrious career, but also remembers Dr. Gharib as a beloved mentor to his students and a dedicated physician to his patients. The collection of memories and writings truly captures the man who was admired and revered by so many.
