Author Biography

Pauline Frommer started traveling before she could speak, seeing the world at a young age with her guidebook writing parents, Arthur Frommer and Hope Arthur. She went into the "family biz" over a decade ago, serving as the first editor of Frommers.com and then the travel section of MSNBC.com. Her articles have appeared in numerous publications including Budget Travel, the Dallas Morning News, Marie Claire, and Nick Jr. Magazine. Online, she writes a weekly column for MSNBC.com called "The 24-Hour Layover." The first book she authored, Pauline Frommer’s New York is currently in bookstores; she also contributed a chapter on traveling with babies to the book The Experts Guide to Babies. In 1999, she was awarded a Lowell Thomas Medal from the Society of American Travel Writer’s for her magazine work. She currently appears every Wednesday night on CNN’s Pipeline, to discuss the latest travel trends. On Sunday afternoons she can be heard on radio, co-hosting The Travel Show, which is now carried by over 100 stations nationwide (to listen to podcasts go to www.wor710.com). Pauline is married to physical therapist Mahlon Stewart and is the mother of two very well-traveled daughters, Beatrix (age 4) and Veronica (age 8).

Kate Silver intended to live in Vegas for just a year, but she took to Sin City like a dauber-wielding Bingo buff. She has spent seven years getting to know and often love the city, paying special interest to the offbeat people who call Las Vegas "home." An award-winning journalist and editor at Las Vegas Life magazine, she extols the eccentricities and intricacies of the city. Her adventurous nature and writing experience were assets when she was invited to pen four chapters in this book (on gambling, nightlife, shopping and side trips), in which the R and D required visits to swingers clubs, slot tournaments, and a “top secret” government base. While at Las Vegas Weekly newspaper, Silver won awards from the Nevada Press Association for Outstanding Journalist in 2003 and Journalist of Merit in 2001. Her writing has also appeared in Playboy and People, among other publications.
