Author Biography

&ntext-align=left align=left>After graduating from UC Berkeley, Fred Selinger went on to a distinguished career in corporate finance, investment banking and financial consulting. Among his achievements, Mr. Selinger initiated and completed many financial transactions including mergers and acquisitions, private placements, and public offerings. He has been licensed in insurance, securities, and real estate. He has served as a corporate CEO and on boards of public, private, and non-profit enterprises. Mr. Selinger co-founded the Cal Independent Scholars Network, a program which supports Cal students who have lived under foster care, are orphans, or have been wards of the court.

Over the years, Mr. Selinger developed a passion for teaching, beginning as a guest volunteer teacher in inner-city high schools, and mentor of both high school and college students. He realized even the most talented students, regardless of their college major or station in life were unprepared to face the complex financial decisions that lay ahead. Given his financial background and experience, along with a fervent interest in improving the level of financial literacy, Mr. Selinger designed a practical college level course in “Personal Financial Management” for students transitioning from college to career, and created this companion text.
