Summary

Another splendiferous volume of Popeye Classics (collect them all!). Cartoon Research yelps, "It’s rare that the comic book version of a popular comic strip is as good or better than the original. This is one of those rare exceptions. Sagendorf is immersed in Segar’s world. His storytelling abilities are superb and his cartooning is a joy to behold. Sagendorf owned this universe as much as Segar – other artists have been able substitutes, but Sagendorf knew these eccentric personalities inside and out!"

This beautiful, thick, hardbound book includes special bonus rarities and a boat-load of stories with the one-eye sailor, Wimpy, Olive and Swee’pea including the classic "Popeye, King of Popilania" and the timely "I Hates Bullies!"

Author Biography

Forrest "Bud" Sagendorf (1915 – 1994) wrote and drew more Popeye comic strips and books than any other cartoonist—and wrote and drew them better than all the other swabs! When Bud was just 17, his sister, who worked in an art supply store in Santa Monica, California, introduced him to a customer, E.C. Segar, the creator of Popeye. Bud began a long relationship with Segar who became his teacher, employer, and father figure. After Segar’s passing, Bud produced comic books for 24 years, penned the daily strip, and drew art for licensing products.
