Summary

It presents a scholarly exposition of English-language psychoanalytic terms and concepts, including those from all contemporary schools of theory and practice. Each entry starts with a brief definition that is followed by an explanation of the significance of the term/concept for psychoanalysis, its historical development, and the present-day controversies about best usage.
Author Biography
Elizabeth L. Auchincloss, MD, is senior associate director and training and supervising psychoanalyst at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Eslee Samberg, MD, is supervising analyst at The New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Both teach at Weill Cornell Medical College.
