Author Biography
Donald C. Lehman, EdD, MLS(ASCP)CM , SM(NRCM), is an associate professor in the Department of Medical and Molecular Sciences at the University of Delaware. He teaches courses covering the topics of medical microbiology, clinical immunology, medical virology, and parasitology, along with forensic science and medical terminology. Additional responsibilities include being the program director for the Medical Diagnostic Program and a health professions advisor for the Center for Health Profession Studies. After earning a bachelor of science degree in medical technology, he worked for several years in a hospital laboratory. Don has served in leadership roles with the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and volunteered with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
Janelle M. Chiasera, PhD, MT(ASCP), is senior executive associate dean and professor in the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As an educator she has taught courses covering a variety of topics in clinical laboratory science, including clinical chemistry, immunohematology, laboratory education and management, instrumentation and automation, and scientific writing. She has served as program director of the clinical laboratory science program at UAB, chair of the department of clinical and diagnostic sciences, and currently as senior executive associate dean, where she works with the dean to provide leadership and foster teamwork among the assistant/associate deans, chairs, program directors, faculty, staff, and students. She has served in leadership positions within the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), as a member and discipline lead for the Review Committee on Accredited Programs (RCAP) for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS), and was the first and only American Council on Education fellow to be named at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
