Summary

Three Came Home is the story of the adventures of a Confederate soldier, Sam Atkins, coming home, through a devastated South, after the surrender at Durham Station, North Carolina. In a Southern Patriot's barn, Sam meets an Alabamian, who, through a series of odd circumstances, fought with the North. While cleaning his pistol, it accidentally goes off and mortally wounds the Alabamian, George, the last man to die in the Civil War. Before he dies he begs Sam to go to his home and tell his folks what happened to him. Sam agrees. On his way, Sam encounters, Jefferson Davis and the Confederate gold, befriends a slave and meets his first love in a series of events that will forever change his life.
